EIBIR
The European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) was established in 2006 as a non‐profit organisation dedicated to fostering and coordinating biomedical imaging research in Europe. EIBIR has its Head Office in Vienna, Austria and a network of member institutions across Europe. The Head Office Team supports researchers by drafting, coordinating and managing international research projects and clinical studies, as well as by recruiting consortia of excellence from its Network Members. EIBIR has gained an excellent track record as project coordinator of many European projects under the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 and FP7 funding programmes. EIBIR currently has over 150 member institutions, two thirds of which are made up of clinical departments and one third by basic science laboratories. This EIBIR Network aims to strengthen biomedical imaging research throughout Europe by bringing international research expertise together. It supports networking activities in research and is key to spreading good practice and promoting common initiatives and interoperability in the field of biomedical imaging research. This gives it the momentum and backing to help coordinate research into new methods, concepts and technologies.
EIBIR is a multidisciplinary organisation providing an umbrella for all disciplines related to biomedical imaging, and has in the 10 shareholder organisations additional to its founder the European Society of Radiology (ESR) who define the strategic agenda and activities of EIBIR.
EIBIR is managed by the Managing Director (Peter Baierl, Vienna) and supported by the Vienna Office and is led by its Scientific Director (Prof. Gabriel Krestin, Rotterdam) who chairs the Scientific Advisory Board and is elected at EIBIR’s Annual General Meeting of the shareholders. Each shareholder appoints a representative to the Scientific Advisory Board, which serves as EIBIR’s Steering Committee and sets its strategic agenda. As a result of its close links with these key shareholder organisations, EIBIR is ideally placed to disseminate project results to relevant stakeholders in the field of biomedical imaging and has done so successfully in several FP7 and Horizon 2020 projects.
Role in project
EIBIR will act as project manager (WP6) and be responsible for all activities needed to carry out the project. It will also coordinate consortium activities such as project meetings, consortium internal communication and take care of all administrative issues. EIBIR will also participate in the project’s dissemination activities (WP5), which will include scientific articles, presentations at relevant congresses, flyers, brochures, and website content. EIBIR has a large network of members, and excellent contacts throughout the field of biomedical imaging in both academia and industry, which will benefit the outreach activities and overall dissemination and exploitation of project results.
